Last year we hid a song in our digital release Pt. 2

Continuing on from our post on hiding songs in digital releases a few weeks ago, we’re finally back to divulge our secrets. A few people sent me messages to say they found where the file was hidden, but no one actually worked out how to get it.  The secret track is hidden inside the HD artwork “Selekt Few – MD – Selekt Few MD Bonus Artwork-HD.jpg”, you just have to unzip it.

How to get to the secret track

On Windows:

  1. Start by purchasing our album on bandcamp
  2. Unzip the bandcamp archive using your favourite zip tool
  3. Open the file ‘Selekt Few – MD – Selekt Few MD Bonus Artwork-HD.jpg‘ in your favourite zip tool and unzip it.  If you have problems, try WinZIP or WinRAR.

On Mac:

  1. Start by purchasing our album on bandcamp
  2. Unzip the bandcamp archive using your favourite zip tool
  3. Open Terminal.app
  4. Type unzip, then a space, then drag ‘Selekt Few – MD – Selekt Few MD Bonus Artwork-HD.jpg‘ into the Terminal window and press Return.
  5. Your user directory should now contain ‘00-Selekt Few-Listen feat. Paradox-16bit-44k-master.mp3‘.

So there you have it, you can now enjoy our digital hidden track.  Keep your eyes peeled for Pt. 3 to learn how to hide tracks in your own digital releases.

Last year we hid a song in our digital release

Everyone loves hidden tracks on CDs, but there’s huge debate about where they should be placed. We argued about how it should be done on our CD and the majority won, it went at the end of CD with a 10 minute silence.  The only things that alluded to it’s existence were:

  • The credits hidden in the dirt of the inside cover (digital + physical)
  • The 2 extra seemingly silent tracks on the CD (physical only)

The method we used causes a number of annoying issues when you’re enjoy the CD as a whole, the major of which is there’s a big 10 minute silence where it doesn’t really finish and loop back to the start. Real hidden tracks are hidden between index 0 and track 1 and you get to them by rewinding backwards from track 1. They don’t interrupt the flow of play and they’re stumbled onto “by accident”.

A good example of this style of hidden tracks in Australian Hip-Hop:

What nobody does (that I’m aware of), is hidden tracks in their digital releases, they’re usually just bonus tracks. UNTIL NOW.

If you purchased our album on bandcamp, there’s a hidden track stashed in that zip you downloaded somewhere.

Stay tuned for how to find and open that track, or get adventurous and work it out yourself!

Debut Album ‘MD’ Officially Released!

A little over 5 years after Percuss and I began rapping together in a tiny spare room at Percuss’s old place, our debut album ‘MD’ is officially released!

It all started when when we were driving around our local area in Perth and Percuss said he was keen to write some raps but didn’t have the motivation to do it alone.

He asked if I would join him, throwing in a few comments about how he “had the Rhythm” and I “had the words” and how it “would work”. Well, I guess he was right!

Within a couple of weeks we were spitting some relatively direction-less rhymes over miscellaneous jacked beats ranging from J Dilla classics to instrumentals from Graphic’s “A Shadow of A Smile”.

It was fun, so we kept going. Continue reading
