Selekt Few – Listen feat. Paradox

Every now and then Paradox flicks me a beat that he doesn’t really like and I do.  This one was kind off his older stack of beats but i really liked it and pestered him for it when I heard it.  I don’t remember when that was but it sat on the hard drive and looped in our brains till October 2010.

Shareef set the tone of the track with his verse, followed a few weeks later by myself.  We seem to always end up with Paradox on his own beats and while we hadn’t planned to do it, it happened.  I added Paradox to our Wave for the track (we use(d) Google Wave for sharing and writing lyrics) and asked if he’d want to join us on it, a few days later he had his verse in there.

It sat around for a while with Shareef and I practicing it in our practice sessions, but we never recorded anything.  Around October 2011 Paradox came up to the city for the weekend and he stopped by so we decided to record it all.

Over the course of the next 5 months I edited and mixed the tune, slowly will taking care of everything else.  A month ago we got to a place where I was happy enough to show everyone and here we are now.

Australian Hip Hop Supports Canteen Listening Party

Sometimes I start writing about things and then forget to post them.

Back in February  myself and Shareef had the pleasure of attending the Australian Hip Hop Supports Canteen Listening Party.  Essentially this was a no-tickets gig that was put together as a thank you to everyone involved in the CD and a few lucky extras.

The picture up above was taken by local hip hop’s favourite photographer Henry Buttsworth and is of all the crew involved that were able to make it to Perth.  Truth be told a significant portion of the tracks on the CD came out of Perth.  Still we were joined by a few interstaters in the form of Hilltop Hoods, BRB & Masta.  Masta had a short set of tunes and turntablism after the CD listening finished and also had BRB up on stage doing some of his tracks.

All in all it was a kick arse night and this post is just to say thanks to everyone involved from the organisers of the event, to the organisers of the CD and everything in between.  I applaud the efforts of every single person involved in making the CD a reality and we as a group couldn’t be prouder to have our track on it.

RIP Hunter.
